After some more effort on my part, i have been able to determine that
the problem is in the configure script.

SCO 3.2.4.2 has a broken dirname function in libgen,
The configure script from 3.5p1 detects this, however the configure
script from 3.6p2 does not detect that dirname is broken

I am clueless as to how to resolve this.
