configure options are bad. More choices = more conditional code = more paths to
test = more bugs = more work for us

Then they shouldn't do it, that is the point.
We don't want users to use "none" because we think it is an unacceptable
tradeoff. Others may disagree, but it is up to them to enable it if they are
congnisant of the risks.
