patch against 4.6p1 with some fixes

This patch is against 4.6p1.

It now initializes the flag value, which is needed to be able to turn
it off. If it's not initialized to -1 it's set to some random value and
that means it's on.

It also replaces the daemonizing code with a call to daemon().

It works fine for me. :-)
