FYI, I am still working on an alternative fix for this issue which
removes the need to do the double-pass at all, and therefore makes the
parsing a lot more deterministic. I know the last diff has now been
pushed upstream, but I'll share my patch shortly anyway, so we have a
choice for 6.8 (or 6.9)!
