Not everyone uses systemd, and this feature is useful to non-systemd
users.

It might be useful to OpenBSD and FreeBSD users as well, not just us
Linux people. It's nicer and less error prone to have the daemon itself
be aware of the extra configuration files rather than having to run an
external script.
