rsync over ssh - lockups with pipe()

I'd still been noticing some occasional hangups in 1.2.2 while
websurfing over a forwarded TCP connection. Both ends run Linux
2.2.14.  I just commented out USE_PIPES in my builds and I'll see how
this goes over the next couple of days.
