Hmm.. Did something change from 2.9.9 to 3.0.x? (NeXTStep has my only 3.0
version and that is turned off at the moment).  Because I don't get
any errors under ksh and bash.  (Solaris/Linux)  And it connects out via
SSH first then it quietly drops as true is ran locally.

On 2.9.x machines (some productive some test) I can't produce the error
you see.
