After looking around the source again I think it may be best.  Since
MAXHOSTNAMELEN is used as the default size of utmp_len in sshd.c.  Which
does change per platform.

So if Hurd group and any other platform that needs a MAXHOSTNAMELEN submit
a patch to add it to your configure.in section based on your utmp
structure.
