Ah, I see now.  Sorry, I was indeed confused.  Well, we would be happy with
a change that only applies to systems which don't define MAXHOSTNAMELEN in
the first place. (and you can put both versions in xgethostname, so it is
completely transparent to the rest of the program).

If you announce code freezes I (and maybe others) will subscribe and try to
make sure it gets tested on the Hurd (eg, if I don't have time, I forward it
to one of the Hurd lists for other people to step up).
