openssh 2.5.2 and above seem to have a feature I dont like.

When I issue commmands via 

ssh myuser at myhost
Once I am logged in, I issue a command like the one bolew

nohup commmand & 

and then logoff my session hangs until I issue a ~. 
this then returns me to the calling host.  

Any ideas what is causing this,  I am currently running openssh 2.9.9p2 on
AIX this still seems to have the problem.
