I was saying, indirectly, that any such utility library should use the
value of an environment value named "PAM_ASK_ITEM" as the name of the
program to execute for prompting the used for PAM items (e.g., PAM_USER
or PAM_AUTHTOK or PAM_OLDAUTHTOK).
I just invented that :)

I'm doing no such thing. Though I certainly could: Linux-PAM has done
this sort of thing before :) (but no worries, I have no deisre, yet, to
add PAM items).
