Er, shouldn't it be

#ifdef MAP_ANON
address = mmap(NULL, size, PROT_WRITE|PROT_READ, MAP_ANON|MAP_SHARED,
      -1, 0);
#else
address = mmap(NULL, size, PROT_WRITE|PROT_READ, MAP_PRIVATE,
      open("/dev/zero",...), 0);
#endif

?
