Yes, that works. So, to force a channel closed I need a function that
sets the channel istate/ostate to closed, sends a CLOSE msg, sets the
close sent flag and closes the associated channel file descriptors.

That seems to work. I can then add a ~d escape that detaches the client
from the tty and which then exits as soon as all the other open channels
(e.g., forwarded X11 displays) are closed. And it still works in the
context of the -f -f patch.

Markus, do you see anything wrong with that approach?
