Yes, but then new versions of OpenSSH won't compile on old (read: deployed)
versions of OpenSSL.

If it's hard to integrate OpenSSL with DES, that means there's probably not
too many things that have that integration working. Instead, we're hoping
for lots of new apps that suddenly became feasible to build. Let the new
apps that have this moderately rare union -- rare enough that we made it to
2002 without it being a five alarm blaze -- include one #define.

Incidentally, why DES_ vs. des_? I know this sounds a bit petty, but if
there's going to be an API change, shouldn't it be one that can be spoken
aloud without having to make up new words("big/capital/all-caps/etc. DES vs.
the old little/tiny/babydes", the last of which has a completely different
meaning).
