Building Openssh-3.6.1p2 with Darren Tucker's AIX Password Expiry patch

Hello, as you read by the subject I am trying to compile openssh-3.6.1p2
with AIX password expiry patch.

Operating system is AIX 4.3 using gcc 2.9-aix43-010414
I am using prngd as my entropy.
My configuration flags are as follows:
--with-prngd-socket=/dev/egd-pool --prefix=/usr/local/openssh

I run into the following errors when I run make:
ld: 0711-317 ERROR: Undefined symbol: .aix_remove_embedded_newlines
ld: 0711-317 ERROR: Undefined symbol: expire_message
ld: 0711-317 ERROR: Undefined symbol: login_message
ld: 0711-345 Use the -bloadmap or -bnoquiet option to obtain more
information.
collect2: ld returned 8 exit status
make: 1254-004 The error code from the last command is 1.

I am able to compile and use openssh without the patch.

Any ideas?
