I can't see any mention on the web page:

Creating a locked user via adduser on FreeBSD 5.3 give the following
entry in master.passwd:
testu:*LOCKED*$1$wgpYdQ8Z$2H3SbvgLmQVV9zDxhSgtp/:[...]
Is this version dependant? Or tool-dependant?
