I don't think so.  I just ran a quick test on a dual Athlon 2600MP
(OpenBSD 3.8 with a multiprocessor kernel) scp to localhost and it was
even slower (1m26.76s for -current and 1m49.18s for -hpn, a penalty of
about 25%).

Could you (or Chris) please compare -current (or 4.2p1 release) against
-hpn for localhost and LAN connections on your hardware?
