I've successfully attached patches to mail to this list before. I'm not sure why you're having difficulty. But regardless, a better idea is to submit a bug at https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/ and attach the patch there. That will make it more likely to be folded into a future release, and provide a stable referent for the issue.
