Timing out a channel exec request

Yes, the best fallbacks I have are to kill the process with a separate
command or go ahead and trash the whole session and resubmit any
outstanding commands one by one.

Šor none of the above: blame the user for the original hang and wait for
him to solve the problem. x^D

I'm hoping it won't come to that...
