The actual reason will be in config.log (you'll need to scroll a fair way
back) but it's probably that /usr/local/lib is not in the runtime linker's
path. One way to fix that is to tell the linker to add it with:
./configure --with-ssl-dir=/usr/local --with-rpath=-Wl,-rpath,
(note that the trailing comma is significant)
