Slightly louder quiet mode

Hi,
Is it possible to have a variant of -q which only reports on errors, but 
is silent otherwise on normal operation so that investigating issues is 
a little easier?
I went down the wrong rabbit hole troubleshooting a process that was 
several levels of separation from me and all I could see was 'ssh -q foo 
bar' was timing out, and assumed it was a routing issue and actually it 
was an auth issue, yet no indication, because ssh, it's oh so quiet, ssh. :)
