I think I tried precisely that but didn't like it -- you don't want to
detach from the tty before connecting, because then you're forced to
use $SSH_ASKPASS instead of the tty when you need a pass{word,phrase}.

We might be able to fork before connection, but we'd probably want to
detach from the tty only _after_ the authentication is done.
