openssh-SNAP-20001014.tar.gz configures, compiles, and installs fine from
tarball on this x86 SuSE 6.4 GNU/Linux system:

             Host: i686-pc-linux-gnu
         Compiler: gcc
   Compiler flags: -g -O2 -Wall -I. -I. -I/usr/local/ssl/include
     Linker flags:  -L/usr/local/ssl/lib -L/usr/local/ssl
        Libraries: -ldl -lnsl -lz  -lutil -lpam -lcrypto  -lwrap
