bug in scp (OpenSSH)

With this in mind is it even worth trying to introduce even a small feature
into scp?
One thing I have missing from other versions is the throughput meter in the
status bar. I have added it back in and was looking at trying to get the
feature added into scp, but from what you have said this could become a very
difficult and politically charged task?
