... indeed. Translation: The local-to-local case already is its own, 
separate code path, and providing a kill switch for it shouldn't be more 
difficult than adding a new CLI option "--refuse-local-copy".

Or, seeing the mention of xattrs getting lost, maybe an option 
"--local-copy-helper /usr/local/bin/my_xattr_aware_cp" would be even 
more versatile ... ?
