SSH2 PATH problem

when i do a -v on scp, i just get "connecting to host...\nlost connection".
with multiple v's i get the same thing :/

devon at admin2:~$ scp -v -v -v openssh-20010217.tar.gz hollywood:
Executing: program /usr/bin/ssh host hollywood, user (unspecified), command
scp -v -t .
lost connection
