I've now done this. Patches are available from

In addition to seperating the GSSAPI code from the native Kerberos stuff, the
new patches also fix a problem in the GSSAPI code which could lead to SEGVs
when the user was not being authenticated via GSSAPI.

Comment and review is greatly appreciated.
