I get to teach a lot of users how to deal with security issues and how
to live with firewalls. SSH is obviously a fundamental tool and
always gets a major place in the tutorial.

But the number two most important and fundamental tool is rsync. I
never mention scp unless the user asks specifically about it. SSH and
Rsync together form a complete set of replacement software for rlogin
and rcp and reduces the number of different new things a user needs to
learn about.

Perhaps too much time, effort and emphasis is being placed on scp?

Bob
