i think this is related to this bug, compiling 3.2.2p1 for solaris 8, using gcc
3.2 or 2.95.3 will give the following error when logging into tcsh

 "Warning: no access to tty (Inappropriate ioctl 
 for device). Thus no job control in this shell."

in addition to hang on logout. this error does not occur in openssh 3.1p1 on the
same machine.
